Vocabulary to Make Your Reading Easier or New Words I Learned During the Semester

These are some specialized terms you may need help with while reading my blog posts or new words I discovered

1. Netherworld (au-delà)

An uncertain or undefined place.

2. Mesolimbic dopamine system (système de dopamine mésolimbique)

A pathway used by the brain to carry dopamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain, from one area to another one.

3. Ventral tegmental area or VTA (aire tegmentale ventrale)

A group of neurons near the middle part of the brain called the mesencephalon. This area is responsible for the cell bodies related to dopamine in the mesocortex and limbic system. Also, the VTA has a big role in the drug and reward circuitry of the brain.

4. GABA or gamma-aminobutyric acid (acide gamma-aminobutyrique)

An acid that is an inhibitory neurotransmitter limiting the stimulation of neurons. In other words, the GABA makes neurons less likely to an action potential.

5. Cholinergic interneurons (neurones cholinergiques)

Neurons that send messages mainly using the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. They regulate the corpus stiatum network activity and what is producted.

6. Pharmacotherapy (pharmacothérapie)

Pharmacotherapy is the use of medication to treat something.

7. Intermittent theta-burst transcranial magnetic stimulation  (stimulation magnétique transcrânienne)

Type of transcranial magnetic stimulation in which a theta burst is discharged in the brain. It is often used in the treatment of different psyhcological or physical problems.

8. Mortarboard (mortier)

An academic cap usually worn during graduation.
